Starting the Advent Season

In church this past Sunday, in honor of the beginning of Advent, the congregation prepared a manger for the coming of Jesus. The ceremony comes from the Scottish island of Iona, where Christianity first made its way into Scotland. The ceremony consisted of each member placing a strip of cloth, representing clothes, in the wooden manger. The act was symbolic of opening our hearts and minds to the coming of Jesus Christ by preparing his cradle.
